Recently Benefit added another product to their ever popular They’re Real! line. This time it was the Benefit They’re Real! Remover, which is a strip-down waterproof eye makeup remover. I’ll admit, that I didn’t really know a lot about this remover before I picked it up on my recent trip to Shoppers Drug Mart, but as I was picking up the They’re Real! Push-up Liner, I figured that I might as well pick up the remover at the same time. BEST.DECISION.EVER!
I have been using this simple, yet effective makeup remover for a few days now and I can’t stop singing it’s praises. While it may be too soon to say that this is a HG product, it is certainly on it’s way there.
First let’s talk packaging. It is a simple black matte finish with a black shiny line accent that form a diamond pattern. It is probably the most simple and understated packaging that Benefit has ever done, but it really just works. It’s chic and elegant but at the same time retains that uniqueness that you have come to expect from the packaging on a Benefit product.
The formula itself is a cream formula. It lends itself very well to the squeeze tube container that is comes in and you are very easily able to control the amount that is dispensed. You are supposed to saturate a cotton ball with the remover and then wipe it across your eyes to remove the waterproof eye makeup. As you can see from the pictures below I put the product directly onto my skin (it was my hand) and then rubbed it in and wiped the residue off with a cotton swab. This worked fine when removing the swatch of makeup on my hand, but I would recommend following the directions when using it on your actual eyes. You don’t really need to saturate the cotton swab with product, but you need to make sure you have enough product on the swab to ensure that you are able to wipe off your eye makeup.
The first time I tried the Benefit They’re Real! Remover on my actual eye I was pretty skeptical. I had loaded up the eyeshadow, matte black liner and had enough lashings of waterproof mascara on my eyes to give Tammy Faye Baker a run for her money. I also didn’t want to waste product, but loaded up what I thought was a fair amount on the swab and went to work. That eye makeup melted off just like buttah! Not only did it come off super easy, the product didn’t irritate my eye at all. I was expecting my eye to feel cloudy, like it usually does after I using an oil makeup remover. Yeah, that didn’t happen with this one. I wiped it on, the makeup came off and I opened up my eye with clear vision and makeup removed. VICTORY IS MINE! It was also a bonus that I didn’t get little flecks of product into my eye like I do when removing my eye makeup with every other eye makeup remover I have tried. There was also no stray pieces of the cotton swab stuck to my eye lashes when I was done.
I’m loving this so much that I may just pick up an extra one for my kit. Really, can’t go wrong with that!
