Recap: One of a Kind Show & Sale – Spring 2014

31 March, 2014

head

So it has been a long, long, long time that I have wanted to attend the One of a Kind Show & Sale, but I have never managed to get around to it; until now that is.  This past Saturday, I met up with some of my fellow Canadian Beauty Bloggers; namely Julie from Swatch and Review, Jenn from A Beautiful Zen, Megan from Megan Joy, Stephanie from Fun Sized Beauty, and Cassandra from Exquisitely Chic to attend the show.  Add in my friend and co-worker Jo-Anne from She’s Stacked and you had a great day filled with lots of conversation, shenanigans and shopping.  Lots, and lots of shopping.

I’m not going to lie, I went with the sole intention of looking at the bath/beauty products and nothing else.  Yeah, well ‘the best laid plans of mice and men do oft go awry’.  My plan went right out of the window when I walked in to the Direct Energy Centre and saw first-hand all of the amazing goodies that were on offer.  It was like sensory overload, but in a good way.  You could smell, taste, and touch practically everything.  While the show itself ran over a period of several days, I only attended one day.  This is a huge mistake.  There is far, far too much to do and see in just one day.  While I did a fair bit, I know I missed a huge chunk of stuff.  Now that I have been and know what to expect, I will plan it better and pace myself for next time.

My Picks

Headmistress

Headmistress

How cute do those headbands look?  The ones in the above picture of from the Headmistress Little Miss range, but they make them for adults as well.  The detail is just amazing and there is a wide variety of styles and colours to choose from.  Even though I am not a flower kind of a girl, I couldn’t resist picking up one for myself.

Tealish

tealish Does this one really come as a surprise to anyone who knows me?  As much as I love tea, you would think I would realize that there are other Tea Companies in Toronto besides David’s Tea, but alas I had no idea.  So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the fabulous Tealish booth.  They were offering samples to taste test, and they had some very tea combinations that I had never even heard of before.  I ended up coming away with four cans to try, which I thought was fairly restrained as I wanted to buy the whole booth.

EAUNÉ

Eaune

Once I was able to stop staring at that Chandelier, I started to play with some of the products offered by Eauné skincare.  They have a line of all natural skincare products for both face and body.  I was particularly intrigued by their Dead Sea Salts, which you can purchase in either Buckthorn and Jojoba or Roseship and Jojoba!  They both smelled so divine that I couldn’t make up my mind and ended up picking up one of each!

Bakeress

Seriously, I had to walk away from Bakeress.  They Macrons were so yummy!  I started to look like Homer Simpson with drool running down my mouth.  I wanted to EAT.ALL.THE.THINGS. but I exercised some restraint and managed not to!

Aide Bodycare

Aide Bodycare offers what has to be the cutest soaps around.  They are fun and quirky and all natural.  They even have ones specifically for men that won’t leave the man in your life smelling like flowers.  Aide Bodycare also offers up some amazing lip balm in a variety of scents.  While I love the Cherry and Pina Colada scent (insert song here), hands down the Butterscotch lip balm is by far the greatest smelling thing in the whole world.  Seriously, once you put it on, you will be smelling it for hours!

Artifact Skincare Co.

artifact

Artifact Skincare Co. was one of those companies that I came down specifically to see.  They make a range of top of the line natural face masques that during my research I decided that I just had to have them.  For those of you who were unable to make it out to the OOAKS to pick up some goodies from Artifact Skincare Co., their online shop will be launching on April 8, 2014.  I especially love their Egyptian Honey Rose Masque that is gentle enough that it can be used daily!

Silkpulp

Silkpulp is hands down my favourite pick from the One of a Kind Show & Sale.  What you see above are some cards I picked up from them.  Each card is a reprint of an original work that was not only designed but hand carved with a surgical blade.  Seriously, Mono (Sooeun) Ah’s talent really knows no bounds.  I hope to be able to feature more of Mono’s work in the coming months here on the blog!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All in all, I had a great time at the One of a Kind Spring Show & Sale.  The quality of the goods and the talent of the exhibtors was just amazing.  My only regret is that I didn’t have more time.  But no worries, I am already planning for the Christmas Show!
MAC Petal Power Mineralize Blush Review
7 February, 2014
Purchased by Me
MAC Petal Power Mineralize Blush
  • Collection: A Fantasy of Flowers – Spring 2014
  • Status: Limited Edition
  • Price: $29.50 CAD/$25.00 US
  • Where to purchase: MAC Cosmetics online or in-store
I have long been a fan of MAC’s Mineralize Blushes.  Petal Power, released as a part of MAC’s Spring 2014 Campaign – A Fantasy of Flowers – is no exception to that rule.
Petal Power is described as a ‘coral pink with gold shimmer’.  The golden shimmer and warm orange undertones in this blush look amazing on darker skin tones.  Petal Power would also work very well for those with yellow undertones in their skin.  The colour payoff is excellent from start to finish, and while the shade looks like it might be a bit overpowering at first, the coverage is very build-able and very easy to control.  The golden shimmer contained in this blush also allows the blush to act as it’s own highlight.
I typically got a full day’s wear out of Petal Power, with no need to reapply or touch it up at any point throughout the day.  If you are unable to get your hands on this blush, but are looking for something similar I would suggest NARS Orgasm ($33.00 CAD) or Sleek Makeup’s Rose Gold ($6.99 US) as alternatives.
NARS Final Cut Collection for Spring 2014
9 January, 2014
spring_2014_nars_final_cut_collection
NARS goes very soft and feminine for Spring 2014 with their Final Cut Collection.
This limited edition collection is available now exclusively in Canada at Holt Renfrew. Alternatively, it can be purchased in the U.S. exclusively at Nordstrom and in the U.K. at Selfridges.
Final Cut Blush ($29.00 US/$33.00 CAD/£22.50 UK) Limited Edition
  • Final Cut – which is described as peach coral
  • Love – which is described as tea rose
  • New Attitude – which is described as cherry blossom pink
  • Sex Fantasy – which is described as pale lavender pink
Final Cut Satin Lip Pencil ($24.00 US/$30.00 CAD/£18.00 UK) Limited Edition
  • Descano – which is described as tea rose
  • Stourhead – which is described as a pale lavendar pink
  • Torres del Paine – which is described as a peach coral
  • Villa Lante – which is described as cherry blossom pink
Final Cut Illuminator ($30.00 US/$$36.00 CAD) Limited Edition
  • Adelaide – which is described as a shimmering lavendar pink.
I’m not even gonna lie.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the entire collection.  I know that some of the collection appears to be very light and therefore won’t suit darker skin tones very well, but from my experience with NARS products they always manage to surprise you.  Even if some of the colours don’t work for me personally, they will be welcome additions to my kit.  Methinks I will be making a trip to Holt Renfrew this weekend!
What about you?  What are you looking forward to from the Spring 2014 Final Cut Collection from NARS?
