Montagne Jeunesse Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque

skincare sundays

Welcome to my kick-off of my Skincare Sundays series here on the blog.  To start off, I am taking part with my fellow CBB Members in a face masque battle.  The amazing people over at Farley & Co. have supplied each of us with a range of face masques from Montagne Jeunesse and we are going to review on each week.  You can even join in the face masque battle and find us on social media using the #CBBMJMASKOFF hash tag.  At the end of the face masque battle, you will be able to see which face masque came out on top.

Up first we have the Montagne Jeunesse Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque!

‘Treat your skin to our wonderfully warming clay masque’s – let the natural clay extracts open pores and draw out impurities to leave skin radiant.  These super self-heating masques gently warm up when applied to wet skin leaving it deeply cleansed.’

Now my only previous experience with a self-heating masque is the MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Masque.  I love that masque, despite the fact that it is super messy.  So you can just imagine that I was dying to try this Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque from Montagne Jeunesse.  And really, it ended up being pretty simple to do so!

 Instructions:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Apply
  3. Relax for 10-15 minutes
  4. Rinse

That’s it.  Four very easy steps were all that was needed in order to get this masque on my face.  I thought no way, it couldn’t be that easy.  Well for the most part it was.  Apart from taking me forever to get into the actual packaging, it really was that simple.  You can see the results of my efforts below in my face masque selfie!

I look way too happy for 4 a.m.

So how did the Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque measure up when it was all said and done?

Comfort: 5/5 – This was huge for me.  While I love the whole idea behind a self-heating masque, I am always hesitant and think that it is going to be too hot for me.  Not so with this one.  It was a nice warm, rather than a hot, type of self-heating.  I had to remind myself not to fall asleep because it was that calming.  It was also fun when every time I breathed out through my nose, the little of the product that I had placed on my upper lip heated up.  I felt like a fire breathing dragon!  Also, I love that this masque doesn’t dry out and when you go to remove it, it is still like a liquid on your face.

Aroma: 5/5 – Oh man, this one smelled so, so good.  I made the mistake of doing this masque first thing in the morning.  Bad idea.  Not only did the chocolate smell make me crave chocolate for the rest of the day, but I also had to remind myself not to lick my own face while the masque is on. *Note* while it does look and smell like chocolate, this masque does not taste like chocolate…at all.  I did learn that the hard way, but it was purely by accident.

Results: 5/5 – I love, love, love what this one did for my skin.  Immediately after rinsing it off, my face felt like a babies bottom!  Seriously, I couldn’t stop touching it it was that soft.  It also did not aggravate my dry skin either, so that was a huge bonus for me.

Ease of Use: 4/5 – This one lost a point because despite saying that you just had to tear the side of the packaging, it was much harder to actually get into the masque than it should have been.  Next time, I am using a pair of scissors.  I also applied mine with a silicone bristled brush and it was super easy to apply and the clean the brush afterwards.

TOTAL SCORE: 19/20

Can you tell that I really liked this one?  The Hot Chocolate Pore Cleansing Sauna Masque is a great calming and moisturizing face masque suitable for all skin types.  You might want to use it in the evening and have some chocolate handy for a snack.  The smell alone will have you craving chocolate for hours so why not indulge a little while getting great skin!

Nah! I don’t think you were too hard. Especially if they were your honest feelings. It is what it is right?

I love that this worked so well for you — almost a perfect score! 😉 I’ll have to take your and Julie’s word for the taste…but thank you both for taking that bullet.

Seriously, it’s all I can do to stop myself from running out and picking up a whole bunch of these. Maybe once I’m done with testing all the different versions.

Yeah, the tasting was totally by accident, and so very gross!

    Fire breathing dragon! lol
This was so relaxing! I loved the feeling. I didn’t like the results I had, but I’ll definitely be looking for other self-heating masks.

It smelled sooooo good! I had the exact same problem with the packaging, it was difficult to tear open and as a result it made a bit of a mess. Using scissor next time too :)
