It’s all about colour this spring, even when it’s not.  Seriously, when these Lacquered Lip Shine’s landed on my desk, I kind of stared at them for a while.  I mean, the colours were vibrant, even the neutral Sunbaked.  I was kind of skeptical that they would remain that bright when applied to the lips.  Yeah, I was so, so wrong about that.  Holy colour Batman!  Seriously, these colours are so bright you’ve gotta wear shades!

Exotic Orchid is a cool toned pink.  I normally don’t like to wear cool toned shades of pink as they don’t usually work with my skin tone, but Exotic Orchid does.  This bad boy is super, super bright and while I think it is a little too light for me to wear on it’s own, it would be amazing with a lip liner just a smidge darker.

Sunbaked is cool toned neutral.  For some reason, I was expecting this one to be a bit more on the bronze side, and less beige, but it still works.  It’s pretty much the colour of sand!  This is my favourite shade of the bunch and that’s only because I’m pretty lazy at the moment and this is so easy to put on that I don’t even need a mirror to do it.

Tropical Mandarin is a warm toned orange.  Man is this bad boy bright!  I normally stay far away from anything orange, especially on my lips, because I just don’t think it looks good on me at all.  Well Tropical Mandarin is making me rethink my aversion to all things orange.  Like Exotic Orchid, I would probably darken this one up a bit with a coordinating lip liner before attempting to wear it out.

Each of the three Lacquered Lip Shine shades in the Paradise Calling Collection are super, super glossy and give off a high shine.  YAAASSSS HONEY!  The one downside is the applicator.  It just really isn’t very good at all when trying to get an even application of lip colour.  I would probably use a lip brush instead to apply these shades because with colours so bright, the application really needs to be on point.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised that for lip colour this glossy, the Lacquered Lip Shines were not sticky and tacky at all.  I was anticipating something along the lines of a MAC Lipglass consistency, and indeed they do apply in the same fashion, but without the feeling of dipping your lips in a vat of glue.  Wear time is roughly 3-4 hours, and like any super glossy lip gloss, there is some transfer, but surprisingly very little ‘bleeding’!

The Mary Kay Paradise Calling Lacquered Lip Shine in Exotic Orchid, Sunbaked and Tropical Mandarin are available now for $19 CAD each.  You can purchase them directly from Mary Kay until May 15, 2015 or while supplies last!

      Thanks Zoe!

I think my aversion to all things orange comes from the two years I spent working at Home Depot, lol!
