Currently Reading – July 2014

17 July, 2014

Considering that this blog actually started out as a book blog, I can’t believe that I haven’t done this before.  Following the lead of Jenn from A Beautiful Zen, I am going to show you what I am currently reading at the moment.  Here is a secret you may or may not know about me.  I read anywhere from 3-5 books a week.  Yes, I read fast.  I don’t know how I do, but I do and I always have since I learned to read at 4 years old.  I’ve grown a bit bored with traditional book blogging, and I’ve been working for a while now on a completely new format to give you feedback on books I’ve read, recommend and why!  Look out for that to appear in August!  In the mean time, here is a look at what I am currently reading right now.

Dark Aemilia: A Novel of Shakespeare’s Dark Lady
by Sally O’Reilly

I only started reading this one in the middle of the night last night when I couldn’t sleep so I am not so far into it just yet, but it’s historical fiction (which I love) and it has William Shakespeare (who’s work I also love) in it as one of the characters.  Fingers crossed that I actually like this one and it doesn’t go all pear shaped!

by Rainbow Rowell

I received an ARC (advanced reader’s copy) of this from Raincoast Books, and it was all I could do to hold off and finish what else I was reading before diving into this one.  Rainbow Rowell has a knack for writing completely awesome and insightful books, and so far, Landline is no exception to that rule.

1814308812 Years a Slave
by Solomon Northup

Has anyone not read this book yet or have they only seen the movie?  If you have only seen the movie, which was great, you should still read the book.  It is amazing, powerful, and awe-inspiring.  It just boggles my mind that this actually happened, but they do say that the truth is oftentimes stranger than fiction.

18594569The Devil on Her Tongue
by Linda Holeman

Here we have another historical fiction tale from the amazing Canadian author Linda Holeman.  I really don’t even have the words to describe just how amazing this one is.  I haven’t read any historical fiction this good in a long while and considering just how much I do read, that is certainly saying something.

by Caroline Kepnes

This is another ARC that I received from Simon & Schuster Canada!  It’s about love and obsession, and the thin line that is between the two sometimes.  This one is not released until September 30th, and it really is one you want to add to your TBR pile!

There you have it.  There is a small snapshot of just what I am reading at the moment.  Want to see my never ending bookshelves?  Then be sure to look me up on Goodreads!  What about you, what are you reading right now?

such a fun summary of what you’re reading! i am also bored of traditional book blogging and working on doing more shorter reviews within a theme (like my summer recommendations, working on one with three contemp YA books i’ve read lately, etc). i am super curious to see what you are going to do in august as i could always use more inspiration for that. also LANDLINE ENVY.

I’m not bored with traditional book blogging yet, but I do find it hard to do everything. I have yet to read any Rainbow Rowell, but I keep meaning to. All her books look so good.
