It’s Time For a Change!

17 April, 2015

If you are reading this message, then you are a regular reader of Nicole About Town and I thank you. I’ve been blogging here since 2011, way back when this was just solely a blog based on books. Man, that seems like such a long time ago.

Anyway, over the years, I’ve incorporated my other passions, but never felt that I paid them enough attention. I’ve toyed with the thought of taking on contributors over the years, but everything, including the name of Nicole About Town has been so tied to me that I didn’t feel it was right.

So it was back to the drawing board to decide just what I wanted to do.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and made the choice that I have been agonizing about for over a year now. I am closing down Nicole About Town. It’s been a great run, and I’m proud of what I accomplished with the blog, but now it’s time for the next chapter.

Have no fear, because while Nicole About Town is closing down, I am still going to be blogging. You can now find me over at Beauty, Brains +, which is a blog that I am running with my cousin Melissa. Beauty, Brains + will be everything that Nicole About Town was, and much more. I’ve already started blogging there, and Melissa will be starting shortly as well and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter and opportunity.

So if you’re looking for me, now you know where you can find me. Be sure to stop by Beauty, Brains + and drop us a line.

*Note* Nicole About Town will only remain live until April 30, 2015 and then it will be gone forever.

Poem of the Day | Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

3 April, 2015

Back when I was a little kid, before I really knew anything about poetry, I loved Shel Silverstein (1930 – 1999).  I mean really, who doesn’t love Shel Silverstein?  I’m 34 years old, I and still love his work and read it several times a year.  So it really shouldn’t be surprising that he appears today with the poem Where the Sidewalk Ends.   Continue Reading

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Gothica, Thin Lizzy and Adora | Review, Photos and Swatches

2 April, 2015

So back in 2014, Kat Von D released newly formulate lipsticks in the form of the Studded Kiss Lipstick.  Of course, at that time, the blogosphere was abuzz!  These lipsticks were supposed to be awesome.  More awesome than the original Foiled Love Lipstick, which apart from their tacky packaging, were really good.  So yeah, expectations and hopes for the Studded Kiss Lipstick was high…perhaps too high!

Poem of the Day | I Cry by Tupac Shakur

2 April, 2015

No, you do not need to adjust your screens.  Today I am bringing you a poem, that’s right a poem, by Tupac Shakur (1971 – 1996).  Yes, when people think of Tupac, they think of the rapper, but the reality is that he was much more than that.  He was a poet, lyricist, rapper, MC, actor, producer, and screenwriter.  Today I am bringing you one of the poems that was written between 1989 – 1991, before he became famous.  This poem, along with others can be found in the book The Rose That Grew From Concrete.   Continue Reading

HOURGLASS Modernist Eyeshadow Palette in Color Field | Review, Photos, Swatches

1 April, 2015

Every now and then, you come across a product that makes you stop and take notice.  Since the HOURGLASS Modernist Eyeshadow Palettes were announced, I’ve had my eye on these visually stunning offerings of eyeshadow goodness.  My immediate reaction was pretty much I WANT THEM ALL.  But my reality was a bit different.  Having been burned by Hourglass before, and yes I am talking about the Ambient Lighting Palette, I decided to proceed with caution.  I mean, really Sephora said that they were only available online, leaving no opportunity to test them out beforehand. *Note* Sephora’s website lies.  You can buy them in-store at the Bloor Street location!  What else was a beauty blogger to do but wait for others to review them and see what others were saying?
